About Us

Welcome to our site. Hopefully you will find enough information here to encourage you to come along and meet us.

Shoshin-Do Ju Jutsu was started initially at the request of a group of friends, who all study other arts, but wanted to explore the realms of Ju Jutsu and self defence. So with the support of my good friend Steven Van Hauwermeiren, Shoshin-Do Ju Jutsu came into existence.

Shoshin (初心) is a concept in Zen Buddhism meaning "beginner's mind", meaning that we always try to keep our minds open to all options.

I have been studying martial arts for at least 2 decades. My main or base art is Ju Jutsu. The main thing that keeps me training, is that there is still so much more to find out about the arts, more importantly myself and the fun I still have when training. I am fortunate to have classed amongst my friends some of the best and knowledgeable martial artists one can find to guide them and share the journey (and occasionally a beer) with. In addition to this, I have been lucky to be able to train in numerous dojos, not only in the UK, but around the world with a host of really genuine, good people.

Within Shoshin-Do, we are not re-inventing the wheel and we do have a syllabus against which progress is measured. All students are monitored for progress continuously. Our aim is to explore the art in it’s original (as far as we can) and in it’s continually evolving guises. To find improvements in ourselves and how we practice Ju Jutsu. Also we try to explore our own boundaries to see how far or how much we can achieve.

There is a sport aspect to Ju Jutsu which is open to those who wish to compete. As well as arranging our own events we receive invitations each year to attend seminars and competitions both at home and abroad.

Shoshin-Do Ju Jutsu is insured by MAGB and is also a member of KoGakuShin International Organisation (KIO).
